Side Project / Hair of the Dog Collaboration for Alan!
Alan Sprints of Hair of the Dog Brewing Company spent 29 years crafting beautiful beers. Beers which were very inspirational for their bold flavors and processes which I was inspired to incorporate into Side Project. His use of oak and extended aging, his use of crazy complex malt bills, and his use of no/very little carbonation in his big malty beers changed the way I looked at beer. He and his brewery paved the way for beers such as ours...After having Alan here for our Invitational, I bugged him into allowing me to use some of his beer for a blended collab, something that I feel fit us both perfectly. As Alan was retiring and Hair of the Dog was going to finish up production, a blend of already mature beer sitting in our breweries would be perfect. The results are For Alan and A Long Time Ago.
These blends of Hair of the Dog and Side Project beers, after years of aging and then another extended age in the bottle (A Long Time Ago - bottled July of 2023, For Alan - bottled December of 2023), I feel encompass the heart of what we were trying to accomplish and the creativity of Alan. I hope you enjoy these beers which we can never create again and honor Alan and Hair of the Dog for their contribution to craft beer for almost 3 decades...
