Moksa's Finest
Exuberance: For the final Advocator-exclusive bottle for the ‘24-’25 term, we opted to showcase two familiar ingredients in new ways to put together something special. This beer began as a blend of two Wild Turkey 15-year barrels and one Weller 12-year barrel, aged for an average of 23 months. For the final couple months of aging, we added 2-4lbs of hand split & scraped single-origin vanilla beans to each barrel, a significant increase over our standard dose. In addition, after de-barreling we added an additional dose of chopped vanilla, along with 1.25# / gal of toasted and raw coconut. This time we used a higher percentage of toasted coconut than ever before, despite its tendency to soak up lots of beer, and also opted to go through the laborious process of hand-toasting the coconut ourselves for the first time, for an added boost of aroma. We think the final blend shows off the best of both of these classic adjuncts, with vanilla as the star of the show bringing huge cookie dough goodness, and the toasted coconut playing off the barrel char for added complexity.
Mutuality XXV : Double barrel-aged stout blend first aged in Stagg Jr 8-year, Old Fitzgerald 19-year, and Henry McKenna 10year barrels for 20-27 months, then in Eagle Rare 10-year, Willett Family Reserve 10-year, and Calvados Apple Brandy barrels for an additional 9-16 months with Cook Island vanilla beans.
When building this year-two Mutuality blend, we wanted to keep the bones of what made batch one so special for us, while also embracing the natural variations in barrel varieties, base beers, and aging times.
Mutuality XXV is once again a double-barrel aged stout, aged in several bourbon and one apple brandy barrel, and aged on Cook Island vanilla beans for the final stretch of the aging process. Apple brandy and vanilla come through in a big way on the nose, which switches to a bourbon-and-vanilla show on the palate. Big warming heat and mellow oak, deep dark chocolate, bright marshmallowy vanilla, and a lingering finish with the apple brandy making one last appearance alongside some delicate spice notes from the vanilla. Cheers to another year, Advocators!
Singularity: Advocator Select 24-25 #2: For this second and final Singularity for our 2024-25 Advocators, we opted to showcase our last remaining Bookers Bourbon barrel from a couple years ago. We only got our hands on a few of these barrels, but they’ve found their way into some of our favorite blends over the last year. Though we’d never pick a singularity on “name” alone, this barrel was the far-and-away favorite from our last tasting session, and we are stoked to showcase it for our members in this release. Much like its siblings, this barrel comes in swinging with a big punchy spirit character that promises heat yet delivers smooth warmth. Unlike the others, however, in its last few months of aging this beer began to show off some incredibly rich, chocolatey undertones which fill out the palate beautifully. No adjuncts needed; this beer shines on its own and is an incredibly worthy addition to our Singularity lineup.
